A Seiko 6138-0017 "two eye" chronograph. This watch was manufactured by Seiko in August 1971.
When I found it this watch was dead. The crystal was cracked and scratched, the watch case was badly banged up, and the movement was both rusty and dirty. Also, the watch bezel was damaged, the gaskets were shot, and the band was missing.
The restoration on this watch was extensive, and if I'd realized what all was going to be involved I'd probably have skipped it. The movement needed a full overhaul and some new parts. I had to scrounge up new-old-stock gaskets, a crown, a crystal, and even a NOS tachymeter bezel. That last was tricky. The case needed a full refinishing, and matching a "machine" type finish without the machine is fairly tricky. I used a lathe attachment to get the circular pattern on the brushing.
The band isn't original to the watch, but it is a Seiko from the same period. It also needed refinishing (and new pins) but that was minor.
But hey, I have a 35 year old Seiko chronograph keeping time, looking good, and even water resistant to the original 70 meter factory specs.
It shall henceforth be my standard wear watch. Because I can.
